Self Defense Classes Coming to YouFit Gyms

A group of diverse women in workout attire stand in a self-defense pose during a fitness class. Text on the image reads "Defend a Brighter Future," "Free Self-Defense Workshops!" and "Week of March 20th." The background is blurred, focusing attention on the healthy, empowered women.

Your life matters and YouFit Gyms is here to help you protect it. In response to one of our own YouFit members fighting off an attacker in her apartment complex gym, YouFit Gyms is setting out to help all members and the community by offering FREE self defense classes at participating gyms during the month of March 2023.

Nashali Alma has been a YouFit Gyms member for about a year, but on a recent Sunday night she decided to grab a quick workout at the gym in her Tampa, Florida apartment complex. She heard a knock on the glass door, looked up to find a man she assumed was a resident and let him in. The man proceeded to try to grab Alma, who was immediately alarmed. She began to separate herself from the attacker who continued to pursue her. Nashali’s instincts took over and she decided to fight back.

Nashali escaped her attacker and is on a mission to organize rallies, fundraisers, and events that bring lazer focus to the problems that victims face as a result of sexual assault via her Never Give Up! Campaign. YouFit Gyms is joining the efforts by offering self defense classes based on Krav Maga at participating locations.

4 Reasons Why Learning Self Defense is Important for Everyone

Improve Awareness

Taking a self defense class can you help you identify what to look for in a potentially harmful situation and even your attacker BEFORE being attacked. This awareness will give you the opportunity and more time to flight, instead of a fight your attacker.

You’re More Prepared

If you haven’t at least thought about what you would do if you were attacked, it’s simple – you are unprepared. Yes, adrenaline rushes in and your natural instincts will take over, but you’re more likely to successfully protect yourself if you have a game plan.

Protect Yourself

Self defense classes offer you the basic movements you can use to protect yourself in an unwanted and threatening situation.

Help Others

The more you know, the more you can share with your friends and family. But don’t take on teaching self defense movements on your own – instead encourage them to take a series of class taught by professional instructors.
